The CTRL+J Alliance Launches Two Inaugural Programs: CTRL+J Microgrants and CTRL+J Research Hub

CTRL+J Microgrants: This program provides support for small convenings or targeted meetings that fulfill the CTRL+J objective of furthering conversations to secure the future of information, in the age of emerging technologies. These conversations or discussions aim to provide direction within a local information ecosystem, enabling potential market-based solutions to emerge. The microgrants funding range is between US$1,000–US$5,000.

The deadline for the first round of applications is Oct 15, 2026.

CTRL+J Research Hub: This six-month program is designed to foster new insights and strengthen international collaboration among researchers from the Global South working at the intersection of journalism, technology, and public policy. With a focus on the political economy of journalism, the program’s cohort consists of researchers examining how technological transformations, particularly the rise of AI, are reshaping public-interest journalism and people’s access to reliable information. At the end of the program, an honorarium of US$1,000 is provided to participants.

The programs are jointly organized by the CTRL+J Alliance convenors, namely: the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM) Tech team, Momentum – Journalism and Tech Task Force in Brazil, the Indonesian Cyber Media Association (AMSI) and South Africa’s GIBS Media Leadership Think Tank. The Alliance was formed based on responses and learnings coming out of the 2025 CTRL+J conference series.
