CTRL+J Microgrants

The CTRL+J Microgrants Program is designed to support and facilitate conversations and work around the challenges and solutions impacting trustworthy information flows in the era of AI.

The grant amount is between US$1,000 to US$5,000. Applicants are required to submit in the application via the platform outlining the requested amount and the use of funds.

The CTRL+J Microgrants Program specifically covers small convenings related to advancing or continuing the work and conversation around;

1. The impact of AI on local information producers,
2. Solutions to preserve healthy information flows,
3. Innovative partnerships that reimagine the future of information

These small convenings can be in the form of a closed-door meeting with key-opinion leaders, a panel in a conference, a highly curated small group discussion, etc. We are not limiting the scope and it is up to you to propose as long as the convening fits the CTRL+J mission.

The proposal should be short, precise and includes the following elements;

1. Objective(s)
2. Tell us about your proposed convening, and how does it serve the objective(s) above?
3. Why is this proposed work important to your market/ region?
4. What do you plan on doing with the insights derived from your convening?
5. An estimate of the budget itemized

1. Venue and catering costs for a small meeting
2. Travel cost for select individuals to attend the meeting (We do not cover travel for individuals looking to attend an existing conference. The travel coverage can be to cover individuals attending the proposed small convening/meeting that would advance the CTRL+J conversation)

This is a rolling application with submissions reviewed after each deadline. Deadlines are Oct 15, 2026, Jan 31, 2027.

Organization-based applications are preferred - and collaborations between multiple organizations are highly encouraged! If there are more than one organizations involved, there should only be one lead organization applying on behalf of the group.

Freelancers may apply but would need a letter of support from an organization willing to host the convening. All grant funds can only be transferred to an entity, not an individual.
Most of the CTRL+J work is centered around the Global South and serving markets operating in mid and low-resourced languages. Local and regional institutions operating in countries that are in the Global South and/or whose dominant language belongs in the “mid or low-resource language” category, are encouraged to apply.

Our team reviews applications after each deadline. Review cycles are expected to complete every six weeks. Applicants will receive email notification if their proposal is accepted or rejected upon the completion of review.

All microgrants must be completed within six months. The application form requires a proposed timeline.
